What to Expect at Your First Orthodontic Evaluation

Your first visit to Lowe Orthodontics is all about getting to know you, understanding your orthodontic needs, and determining the best path toward a healthy, confident smile.

Your Initial Evaluation

When you arrive, our Treatment Coordinator will take a preliminary panoramic X-ray to provide Dr. Lowe with an overall view of your teeth, developing teeth, roots, and supporting structures.

Dr. Lowe will then perform a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation and discuss his findings with you. Together, we’ll review whether orthodontic treatment is recommended and which treatment options may be appropriate for your individual needs.

Before you leave, we’ll also discuss your anticipated treatment time, treatment options, and cost, so you have a clear understanding of what to expect before making any decisions.

What Happens Next?

If you’re ready to move forward, our team will schedule the next step in your orthodontic journey.

Depending on your treatment plan, we may take additional orthodontic records and a digital scan for DIBS AI indirect bonding, which allows us to digitally plan precise bracket placement and create customized trays for placing your braces. If clear aligners are an appropriate option, we can begin the digital planning and fabrication process for your aligners instead.

Typically, you’ll return within a few weeks to have your braces placed or begin your clear aligner treatment.

During Treatment

Once treatment begins, we’ll see you regularly to monitor your progress, make adjustments, and keep everything moving toward your final result. Every smile is different, so your appointments and treatment will be tailored to your individual needs.

After Treatment

Finishing active orthodontic treatment is an exciting milestone—but maintaining your new smile is just as important.

Retainers are recommended for most patients to help maintain your results and minimize future tooth movement. As you approach the end of treatment, we’ll discuss your retainer options and help determine what will work best for you.

We look forward to being part of your orthodontic journey and helping you achieve a smile you’ll enjoy for years to come!
